The Moonlighters Collective

We Are

We are a female-led theatre company originally from Cumbria, working across the UK.

Our work is feminist, socially relevant, and often relates to our northern roots. As a female-led company, we place a strong emphasis on telling stories from the female perspective: creating complex female roles and providing more opportunities for women in the industry.

We are currently preparing to tour our one-woman show Ophelia, after completing an R&D last summer (2023), supported by the Arts Council, Theatre by the Lake, and dramaturgically by Box of Tricks. Ophelia, explores teenage mental health in Cumbria, interweaving Shakespeare and local folklore. During the R&D we provided accessible workshops for Cumbrian teenagers from secondary schools, youth theatres, the Young Farmers groups, and the Pride in North Cumbria youth group.

Our previous work includes original plays Dear Beryl  (Arts Council funded) and I Am Not Your Woman, (5* British Theatre Guide), the former exploring technology, the rise in social media influencers, and the privatisation of healthcare, and the latter exploring society's response to sexual assault. We also reimagine classical work, through our current project Ophelia, and our very first project Macbeth, which engaged young people in classical text for the first time. Alongside our main projects, we run events - from Writers Nights with a focus on writers in the north of England, especially those in Cumbria, to comedy events which the aim of elevating emerging LGBTQ+ and female comedians.

The company is led by Hannah Roze-Lewis and Amy Allenby.
